Changing Lives

Saving Money!

Donors who make a gift of $1,000 or more in 2009 are eligible to receive tax credits through the State of Missouri's Youth Opportunity Program or Residential Treatment Tax Credit Program.

Tax credits are allocated to organizations such as Epworth for administering outcome-based, positive youth development projects and for providing residential services for foster care youth.

HOW DO TAX CREDITS WORK?

You can claim 50% of your donation as a state tax credit. In addition, you can claim your donation on your federal income taxes, to the limit of your taxable income.  You have five years to use all your credits.

Here’s an example using a cash gift of $5,000:

$5,000 contribution at a 35% tax bracket

Federal tax savings (1)  = $   875

Missouri tax savings (2)=     150

State tax credit (50%)  =  __$2,500

Total tax savings        =  $3,525

Cost of gift after taxes =  $1,475

Epworth’s kids receive the full $5,000 benefit on Youth Opportunity Program Tax Credits!

Stock gifts transferred to Epworth are also eligible.  In addition to the tax credit, a donor will owe no capital gains tax on any appreciation.  As with any gift, how much is deductible for tax purposes will depend on your unique circumstances and tax bracket, so please consult with your accountant.

Fostering Faithful Families

Wait No More

was a very successful event and more than 500 hundred people came to hear about kids who need homes!

Finding Families for Missouri's Waiting Kids

Right now, more than 1,400 legal orphans in Missouri foster care are waiting for adoptive families. Are you being called to serve these children?

Come explore what the Lord may be asking you to do. Together, we can ensure that no child in Missouri is waiting for someone to call mom or dad.

A father to the fatherless…is God in his holy dwelling…God sets the lonely in families…
Psalm 68.5-6

Epworth is also looking for Methodist church ambassadors to act as liaisons between foster and adoptive families and agencies participating in the Fostering Faithful Families initiative.
