MAYA

found strength to...

Be A good mom

When 19-year old Maya entered Epworth’s Transitional Living Program (TLP), she had already been in foster care for nine years and had a three-year-old daughter. Maya was determined to be a good mom and to make sure that her daughter had a better life, in a better home. Through the structured environment of TLP including: life skills classes, financial assistance, employment training and 24-hour support, Maya learned how to be self-sufficient so that she could live on her own in the community and take care of her daughter. Maya now has her own apartment, a job that pays a decent wage and co-leads her daughter’s brownie troop.

Ensuring that at-risk youth like Maya become self-sufficient, independent adults requires the partnership of many individuals, foundations and corporations. One of these donors has recently created a challenge for us to match $375,000 in contributions to Epworth’s Building and Maintenance Endowment Fund which will help Epworth maintain safe, healthy and comfortable facilities well into the future for youth like Maya.
